A few words on Improbable
For those who hasn’t read the book yet:
Our hero, a statistician, is a gambler. One day, when he suffer from an unbearable pain during a game, he loses too much and the story begins…
….
There is no way to write a summary on this book, at least I could not, so you better read the book
, but here is a brief information for the rest of this post:
Guessing the future might be possible with combining environmental effects and mass thought concentration. Of course, not for 100% sure, but think that you could raise the possibility of a tails result of a coin play to 99% by just calculating the speed of the wind, gravity, temperature and etc…
And our hero is, Laplace’s demon!
I always have a a negative prejudgement about bestsellers, just many other people has…
After reading the book of Adam Fawer named “improbable“, I realized that real qualitative things can also show up in these lists (but this couldn’t stop me from feeling bad when buying the next book empathy )
It is obvious that the thing that make the book bestseller is it’s fluent story. Although I fell a sleep while reading my favorite novelist İhsan Oktay Anar’s book in bed, improbable took me to sleepless nights, i just couldn’t drop the book of my hand…
All people I talked about this book who comes from numerical disciplines liked the book whereas people from social sciences have negative comments about the parts full of mathematical modeling of the world (where I liked most
)
But the thing that made me write this post is neither the fluent story not the mathematical modeling of the world. About 2.5 years ago, I read the book “Time Travel in Einstein’s Universe: The Physical Possibilities of Travel Through Time” written by J. Richard Gott, I asked myself the question: “what might be faster than speed of light, is time travel impossible?” , but could not find a proper answer. But Adam Fawer has found a good answer to this question. Thought … I don’t know this has been proved or not but seems quite logical. It may not be faster, but the parallel calculation property of our brain can bring a new force and this might be possible.
I dont mean “horreyy, we can guess the future”, but think, parallel universe, time travel and many others, if we can discover these concepts more, our point of view may change a lot. The reality that in parallel universes everything is lived different and think about the size of the energy, information… Like Hugo’s train travel game on TV when we were child, roads separate but combine in the future… Wish we were not lost in the separation points and aim the combination. Or at least/only I could do that
…
Just concentration & concentration & concentration…
What if the god, who nows the future, encrypted the way to guess future inside us? Ooops wait a minute! I both talked about the parallel universe and guessing the future (determinism), doesn’t these two intersect? I dont think so, just say, finding out in which parallel universe we live in and moving to the next, if possible….
Maybe the god designed the world recursive, and the mission of the human being is to find out this and create another world….
Thank you Adam for refreshing my respect to determinism… Let’s see what empathy will bring….
